Blimund
von Marlene Monteiro Freitas
Blimund works in a “trapiche”, a traditional contraption for breaking up sugar cane. The bull runs continually in circles. When he realises what conditions he is living under, he breaks out, frees himself and rebels. The seductive power of music eventually helps a frail boy succeed in achieving what no one else has been able to do: to capture Blimund. The choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas adapts this folk tale from her homeland, the Cape Verde islands, and interweaves it with myths focussed around bulls from all around the world. As in a tapestry, different threads combine here to form a great narrative. A production by P.OR.K / Marlene Monteiro Freitas; co-produced by Tanz Köln with the Volksbühne Berlin.
