Alexander Ekman

Alexander Ekman, a native of Sweden, danced with the “Royal Swedish Ballet,” the “Cullberg Ballet,” and the “Nederlands Dans Theater 2.” In 2006, he ended his career as a dancer to devote himself entirely to choreography. Since then, he has been in high demand internationally and has created works for, among others, the “Cullberg Ballet,” the “Compañia Nacional de Danza,” the “Göteborgs-Operans Danskompani,” the “Royal Swedish Ballet,” and the “Semperoper Ballett” in Dresden. In 2011, he served as a teacher and choreographer at the Juilliard School in New York City; from 2011 to 2013, he was “Associate Choreographer” at the “Nederlands Dans Theater.” Alexander Ekman also frequently serves as composer and set designer for his own choreographies. His work “Cacti,” for which Ekman designed both the set and costumes, has received numerous awards.
