Marlene Monteiro Freitas
Marlene Monteiro Freitas is a choreographer and dancer from Cape Verde who lives in Lisbon. Her work, characterized by openness, radical complexity, and great intensity, is presented internationally and has received numerous awards. Among her honors are the “Silver Lion” for dance at the Venice Biennale, the “CHANEL Next Prize,” and the “Evens Arts Prize.” The French Ministry of Culture has awarded her the title of “Officière de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.” Starting with the 2026–27 season, she will serve as a member of the artistic board of the Volksbühne Berlin.
