Marco Goecke
Marco Goecke, born in Wuppertal, received his ballet training at the Heinz Bosl Foundation in Munich and at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His first engagements took him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Theater Hagen, where he choreographed for the first time in 2000. This was followed by several choreographic works for the Noverre Society featuring dancers from the “Stuttgart Ballet” and an invitation to the New York Choreographic Institute.
In 2003, Goecke won the “Prix Dom Pérignon” in Hamburg with the piece “Blushing,” performed by the “Stuttgart Ballet.” With his entirely unique movement language, he quickly became in demand worldwide and received commissions to choreograph for international companies, including “Les Ballets de Monte Carlo,” the “Norwegian National Ballet,” and the “Berlin State Ballet.” From 2005 to 2018, Goecke served as resident choreographer for the “Stuttgart Ballet” and, beginning in 2013, as associate choreographer for the “Nederlands Dans Theater.” From January 2019 to August 2023, he served as “Artist in Residence” at “Gauthier Dance// Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart,” and from 2019 to 2023, he was ballet director at the Staatstheater Hannover.
Of the more than ninety works Marco Goecke has created over the years, many are part of the repertoires of major international dance companies. Marco Goecke has received numerous awards, including the “Nijinsky Award Monte Carlo” in 2006, “Choreographer of the Year” in 2015 in a critics’ poll conducted by the magazine *Tanz*, and the Dutch dance prize “Zwaan” in 2017. 202
